Bookish Daniel Craig

BeFunky Collage

Bond is back! And whether you’re planning to see Spectre, the new 007 movie or not, you may be interested in seeing some other book adaptations starring English actor, Daniel Craig.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) based on the comic series and starring Angelina Jolie. Daniel Craig plays Croft’s rival and fellow tomb raider, Alex West. Croft and West have quite a bit of sexual chemistry, and in true DC style, Daniel has a shower scene and shows some skin.

The Golden Compass based on Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series of books and starring Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra Belacqua. The movie is about a young girl who lives in an alternate world ruled by an oppressive group and where human souls take on the form of animal companions. Daniel Craig plays Lord Asriel, Lyra’s mysterious uncle who doesn’t shower during the entire movie.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011) based on Millennium series of books by Stieg Larsson and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Daniel is a magazine owner known for exposing corruption who works with Lisbeth Salander, an emotionally distant computer hacker, to solve a 40-year old missing person case for a wealthy business man.

Casino Royale (2006) based on the book by Ian Fleming and starring Daniel as MI6 agent, James Bond. Go back to where it all began where many (including myself) didn’t think Daniel Craig had the right stuff to reboot the franchise. Little did we know, he would bring an intensity and physicality to the role we didn’t know we were missing. Daniel won the Empire Award and Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Actor, as well as the Sant Jordi Award for Best Foreign Actor for his performance.

Have you read any of these books or seen any of these Daniel Craig movies? Are you going to see Spectre?

I’m hoping to see Spectre when it comes out (Mockingjay is priority though!) I didn’t even realize how many bookish films Daniel Craig has been in – he’s really not on my radar even though I think he’s good as Bond, so it was very interesting to read this post. Maybe with Spectre I’ll become a big fan! 🙂

There are a few more bookish movies Daniel Craig has starred in, but I thought I would focus on those four. I haven’t seen The Golden Compass, but I enjoyed the other movies.

I am a big James Bond fan. I think that Craig is also a superb actor.

I have already seen Spectre. I many ways such as cinematography, acting, themes, characterization, etc. it was a strong film. Yet I was ultimately disappointed in that I thought it was a complete rehash of previous James Bond films, especially those of the Connery era. I am tired of seeing the same story told again and again.

I heard that Spectre wasn’t that great which is too bad since I think Daniel Craig is only going to star in one more movie. I’m going to see the movie this weekend, so I’ll let you know what I think.

I love the Tomb Raider games and I liked the movie as well. I still need to see Golden Compass. Unfortunately, my Bond movie score is low. I’ve seen a couple, maybe? I really need to up my game there.

It’s definitely interesting to see how each actor plays the character. What I liked about Daniel Craig rebooting the series is how James Bond stopped being an invincible playboy.

Casino Royale is a really good movie, although if I remember correctly the torture scenes were intense. I’m seeing Spectre this weekend and looking forward to it.

This is sort of a book adaption: Daniel Craig was in a really great film about Sylvia Plath. He played Ted Hughes.

I did see this in his filmography which reminded me I’ve been watching to see this movie for ages. What was Gwyneth Paltrow like as Sylvia?

I really liked her as Sylvia, but I’m not a particularly good film critic. 🙂 An enormous fan of Plath recommended the movie to me.
